Support
Following SEO best practices, we need to review "International targeting" for all NRO websites in the Search Console.
We also have to implement hreflang tags that is also needed for Language/Country targeting.PLANET-5272
Tasks
- Go through the ones that we have access and set a proper Country selection.
- Based on that create a simple recommendation with instructions on how all the rest of the NROs can set that themselves.
- Send an email to the community (this is also important for non-P4 NROs)
Updates
We have updated the International Targeting for greenpeace.org (on July 18th, 2020 11:30PM CET) and defined specific targeted countries for the following properties:
- https://www.greenpeace.org/ defined as unlisted*
- https://www.greenpeace.org/brasil/ targeted to brasil
- https://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/ targeted to canada
- https://www.greenpeace.org/canada/fr/ targeted to canada
- https://www.greenpeace.org/mexico/ targeted to mexico
- https://www.greenpeace.org/denmark/ targeted to denmark
- https://www.greenpeace.org/finland/ targeted to finland
- https://www.greenpeace.org/norway/ targeted to norway
- https://www.greenpeace.org/sweden/ targeted to sweden
Important to note that this setting is only for geographic data. If your NRO is a multi-region one, targeting users in different locations (eg. MENA, EU, Africa), don't use this tool to set a specific geographic target but rather choose Unlisted from the dropdown list.
Recommendations
We only updated a few properties that we have access to. If you want to set up a country target on your website, follow the steps below:
- You must be a delegated owner of the property in Search Console
- On the International Targeting report, click the Country tab.
- Check the Geographic target checkbox and choose your country target.
*If you want to ensure that your site is not associated with any country or region, select Unlisted in the drop-down list.
On this topic, we are also looking for solving the hreflang issue, by implementing hreflang meta tags on NRO websites in Planet 4.
